What holds up

  1. 01 / 05Trade and scope first. What you own on a job, stated before anything else.
  2. 02 / 05Cards with course and year.An OSHA card is a course record, not a certification; write it as one.
  3. 03 / 05Jurisdiction awareness.City and state rules override the federal card; the reader knows theirs.
  4. 04 / 05Equipment by name.Machines and systems are the matched search terms.
  5. 05 / 05Volume the crew can check.Jobs, square footage, crew size, incident-free time.

What does not

  1. 01 / 05Calling an OSHA card a license.OSHA itself says it is neither certification nor license.
  2. 02 / 05Skills beyond your ticket.Claiming licensed work without the license ends applications.
  3. 03 / 05"Hard worker" as the lead. The numbers say it or nothing does.
  4. 04 / 05Team safety stats without your role.Site numbers read as borrowed.
  5. 05 / 05Unexplained gaps.Seasonal and project work is normal; say so in one line.

FAQ

Questions about this carpenter resume example

Short answers to what people ask before they send this resume.

Use this example
Does an OSHA card count as a certification?

No. OSHA states that an Outreach course is neither a certification nor a license. Write it as the course and the year and let the reader decide what it is worth.

Do I list every jobsite I have worked?

List employers, not sites. Under each, name the kind of work and the scale. A list of addresses reads as filler; a list of scopes reads as capability.

What if my work history has gaps?

Seasonal and project work is normal in the trades. Use years rather than months, and account for long gaps in one plain line. An unexplained gap invites a worse guess than the truth.
